May is mental health month.  Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.  One without the other is imbalance.  Mental health encompasses an individuals’ mood, behavior, thoughts and emotions.  Examples of mental illnesses include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and addiction.

Individuals can be physically healthy, but if they are not emotionally healthy, such things as relationships, job retention, and  substance abuse can become issues.

The CDC estimates that 50% of all Americans will suffer from at least one mental illness throughout their life. Mental illness such as anxiety or depression can be situational, due to an underlying medical condition or strictly an illness in of itself and is easily treated.  Fortunately, there are  resources available to everyone. Given below is a link from the CDC that provides multiple treatment options for varying types of mental illnesses.  If you feel you are suffering from some sort of mental distress, know you are not alone.  One of the healthiest things you can do for yourself is to talk to your doctor about getting the help you deserve.
