According to the CDC, more than 30 million Americans have Type II Diabetes (generally adult onset and preventable). Last year, $327 billion was spent on diabetic health care costs alone. Not only is diabetes expensive, it is damaging to all organs and can lead to serious health conditions such as kidney failure, blindness, and increased risk for heart attack and stroke. The time is now to end the epidemic of diabetes.

Symptoms

The symptoms of Diabetes are often subtle and increase slowly over time.  Although most of these symptoms can also be caused by other conditions, it is important to discuss any that you may have with your doctor.  Here is a link for more information.

Prevention

The best way to prevent Adult onset Diabetes is what you have all heard before. Diet and Exercise! Maintaining a healthy weight and 20-30 minutes of exercise daily has been shown to decrease the risk and even reverse Type II Diabetes. A Mediterranean Diet  has shown to be helpful. Remember, even changing your eating habits a few times a week can be beneficial. Here is a link to a study comparing Mediterranean vs. low fat diet.
